How Iqony went from Excel sales to a 24/7 configurator in 6 months.

Iqony, the trading arm of Steag Iqony Group, markets electricity from wind and solar installations from 250 kW. In early 2025, the project started with a clear goal: plant operators should be able to get a price indication for direct marketing around the clock, without a phone call, without Excel, without a consultant.

Together with TRACE, they created an online quote configurator that maps the typical logic of direct marketing (remuneration models, processing fees, contract terms) as self-service. The public launch took place on August 26, 2025.

Since then, the platform has been continuously expanded: Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) were added first, then market access contracts. Further energy services are planned for the future. Everything runs on the same TRACE platform. New products are configuration, not new development.

What energy utilities ask us most frequently.

How long does implementation take?
A first live version is typically achievable in 8 weeks, depending on feature scope, your data quality, and the depth of CRM/pricing system integration and your internal process structure.
How does the licensing model work?
TRACE is licensed as SaaS with a one-time setup fee for branding and integration, plus a recurring licence and service fee that scales with feature scope. We discuss concrete commercial terms in a first call, depending on your use case.
Which data sources are used?
By default we use public market data (EPEX Spot, Marktstammdatenregister, weather data). On request we integrate your own sources, e.g. internal pricing tables, forward curves or compensation models from your back office.
Who maintains the regulatory logic (EEG, BNetzA, etc.)?
We do. TRACE maintains regulatory building blocks for the relevant products and provides them via the platform. When legislation changes, we update the logic — no action needed on your side.
Can we start with just one product?
Yes, that's actually the norm. Some customers, for example, offer only direct marketing; others only PPAs. Others again cover multiple models such as direct marketing, PPAs plus market-access contracts. You enable what fits your sales portfolio and expand later when it makes sense.
How secure is the platform?
TRACE runs on European cloud infrastructure with standard encryption in transit and at rest. GDPR-compliant, with clear data-processing agreements. We're happy to share detailed specs (security architecture, pen-tests) in a personal customer call.
What if our sales process doesn't fit your standard logic?
The platform is modular and configurable. Deviations from the standard we solve via configuration, deeper customisation via the API. In practice every utility has had their process cleanly mapped so far. You know your market, we know the platform.
